Lecture - "The ongoing study of Lascaux's archaeological objects"
Thursday 21 November 2024, at 6 pm, Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique
This lecture explores the ongoing study of Lascaux's archaeological objects, and particularly the collections at the French National Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac. The quantity, quality, and condition of the cave paintings and the history of their discovery have forged the legend of Lascaux, making the site a sort of "ambassador" for this remarkable palaeolithic heritage. Less well known is the high archaeological price the caves have paid, so costly that now, 84 years on, experts are still struggling to piece together the archaeological data they contain.
