Following the publication of its White Paper on sustainable tourism, the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority has signed the Glasgow Declaration on climate action. Here are three questions and answers with everything you need to know!
What is the Glasgow Declaration?
A crucial response to the need for urgent climate action in the tourism industry, the Glasgow Declaration aims to reduce emissions by half over the course of this decade, and to achieve net zero as soon as possible before 2050.
Who is involved?
All stakeholders in the industry are making efforts to promote low carbon, sustainable and resilient tourism models. The Glasgow Declaration currently has just over 700 signatories, including tour operators, online travel agencies, and also cities, countries, and destinations such as Monaco.
What about the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority?
The Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority confirmed its commitment to more sustainable tourism by signing the Glasgow Declaration in Madrid in October, in line with its three-year action plan created in response to the White Paper on Sustainable Tourism in the Principality.
The Tourist and Convention Authority is keen to build on that by working - with the support and contribution of its partners - on the five pathways identified by the Glasgow Declaration, which are: Measure, Decarbonise, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance. Through long-term, everyday efforts, we can take the measures needed to help the climate and achieve our goals.
