This year sees the Monte-Carlo Jazz
Festival celebrate its 18th birthday, with a line-up of iconic artists and venues that
promises to be as unique and spectacular as ever.
In November every year, jazz devotees flock
to the Principality to celebrate their beloved musical genre in all its forms,
in the stunning surroundings of the Opéra Garnier.
The 2024 festival will take place from 20
November to 1 December, opening with a special concert by the students of the
Rainier III Academy featuring a heady mix of jazz standards and pop music (on
20 November). Then over the days that follow, a veritable hit parade of
internationally renowned artists will perform on stage, including the legendary
Count Basie Orchestra that created Kansas City style, and the Dal Sasso Big
Band with a tribute to jazz icon Chick Corea (21 November).
Dee Dee Bridgewater, one of the greatest
performers in the history of modern jazz, and Stefano di Battista, a master of
melodies, will light up Monaco with moments of magic (22 November).
Fans can then look forward to hearing the
powerful, sensual voices of Ayo and Marya Andrade (23 November), followed by
the pop-funk sound of Level 42 and the French music collective Emile Londonien
(27 November). There will be afrobeat rhythms with Cuban rock star, and the
energy-filled groove of Seun Kuti accompanied by his dad’s old bank Egypt 80
(30 November).
On 29 November, the virtuoso guitarists -M-
and Thibaut Cauvin will be accompanied by harpist and singer Sophye Soliveau
for an unforgettable evening of instrumental and vocal delights. Crooner Mario
Biondi and the breakout social media star Stella Clore will bring the curtain
down on what promises to be a festival for the ages, on 30 November.
The Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival is also a
showcase for the cinematic arts, and will include a special screening of the
film Elevator to the Scaffold (24 November) with music by Miles Davis, plus a
Whiplash film music concert on 1 December.
In addition to performances on the stage of the
Salle Garnier, the festival will also feature coming to the Café de la Rotonde
at the Casino de Monte-Carlo for a series of more intimate and exclusive Before
and After events.
