A hugely popular venue with celebrities,
locals and visitors with its unique decor made up of legendary sporting memorabilia, Stars’n’Bars Monaco is closing its doors next Friday after three decades in the arcade below Quai Antoine Ier. The establishment is set for a major revamp, and in its new guise will focus on actively helping the environment.
"Shall we go to the Stars?" was a question frequently asked by locals who fancied spending a happy few hours in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The walls of the iconic bar were covered with legendary memorabilia from the history of sport, from Rafael Nadal's tennis racket to Mika Häkkinen's Formula 1 and the bobsleigh ridden by H.S.H. Prince Albert II. The bg screens showed the biggest sporting events and the kitchen served diner-style tex-mex fare.
It wasn't just popular with Monegasque and well-advised visitors though, and all manner of celebrities stopped by: Chuck
Berry, Jude Law, Andy Murray, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Spice Girls… the list of famous faces spotted enjoying the unique atmosphere is long and eclectic!
With its distinctive American-style sports theme, the establishment run by Didier Rubiolo and the late Kate Powers had taken an eco-responsible turn in the last ten years, using organic ingredients, banning plastic from the tables, and organising numerous environmentally-friendly initiatives throughout the year.
The epicentre of popular life in Monaco, which first opened back in 1993, is closing its doors after thirty years but will be back in a new form in just a few months' time. So it's goodbye to Stars’n’Bars, and hello to a brand new venue that will combine great food, workspaces, and conference spaces, all designed with the environment in mind. And while the new name has yet to be revealed, regulars and visitors are no doubt already looking forward to discovering the new concept at Port Hercule!
