Summer in Monaco in the August sunshine

August is a great time to be in Monaco! Experience an unforgettable summer with fascinating exhibitions, magical concerts, an electric atmosphere, and world-class cuisine.

Les expositions 

  • « Turner, le sublime héritage » at the Grimaldi Forum: Immerse yourself in the wondrous world of Joseph Mallord William Turner, until 1 September. In collaboration with the TATE, the Grimaldi Forum is displaying more than 2,000 m² of the celebrated artist’s sublime landscapes. Marvel at the pioneering master’s unrivalled use of the elements, light, and atmosphere.
  • An evening at the Villa Paloma on 22 August : The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco is set to hold a very special evening at the Villa Paloma. From 6.30 pm, you can enjoy refreshments from the Camion Valentin food truck parked at the foot of the Regulus, the magnificent architectural sculpture by Guillaume Aubry in the Villa gardens.  Then continue the evening with a tour of the exhibition “Miquel Barceló, Oceanographer”, open until 9 pm. 
  • Art3F,  the international contemporary art fair at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille from 23 au 25 août : Art3f will transform the way you see contemporary art. The friendly fair is all about human contact and dialogue, and deftly blends popular and accessible art with the most important current art trends. Meet selected artists, from up-and-coming talents to veterans, and prepare to be inspired and amazed by their paintings, sculptures, and photographs. 

Concerts & shows:

  • Monte-Carlo Summer Festival : International artists including Jorja Smith and Lenny Kravitz will be lighting up the Monegasque stage at the Sporting and Opéra Garnier this summer. 
  • Concert Les Zablocks : Square Gastaud is set to become a party zone from 7.30 pm on 7 August.
  • Drone show : Don’t miss this spectacular Olympic-themed display with 800 drones, on Quai Albert 1er from 10 pm on 9 August. 
  • Dance to Cuban rhythms in the Larvotto district (Place Anne-Marie Campora) from 7.30 pm on 21 August.
  • Concertsat the Prince’s Palace of Monaco – Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra:Once again, the OPMC will be performing a series of unique open-air concerts in the Cour d’Honneur at the Prince’s Palace. The summer season will conclude with a final concert at 9.30 pm on 8 August.
    For a truly one-of-a-kind experience, combine the concert with an exceptional gastronomical dinner at the Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, the Michelin-starred restaurant run by Chef Yannick Alléno at theHôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo. After dinner, transport will be provided to take you to the Prince’s Palace, where you can enjoy the OPMC’s performance in the Cour d’Honneur.

 

Leisure

  • The Summer Village at Port Hercule from 1 to 25 August: Head to Port Hercule this August for fun attractions for all ages, including a carousel, go-karting, basketball courts, a NINJA obstacle course, and hook-a-duck. There are also stalls selling refreshments and pleasant areas to sit and relax in the shade of the greenery along Quai Albert 1er. And don’t miss the 90s/2000s theme night complete with bouncy castles, on 17 August.
  • Open Air Cinéma :  Enjoy a moment suspended in time at Monaco’s Open Air Cinema, as you take in a movie in a unique setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The cinema shows the latest box office releases on a giant 220 m² screen, in their original versions (with French subtitles).
  • La Plage & More at the Méridien Beach Plaza : Here at Monaco’s very own little secluded cove, you can bathe in the warm sunshine, sample the relaxing delights of the spa, or if you’re feeling more energetic, head out onto the waves for some water sports.
  • Summer at the Monte-Carlo Beach : The Monte-Carlo Beach is a summer paradise, perfect for relaxing, enjoying delicious food, and having fun times with the whole family. The hotel is committed to an environmentally friendly policy and, from its own private beach, offers a range of activities that involve no noisy or polluting engines - just your own natural energy!  There are pedaloes, stand-up paddles, and kayaks, not to mention of course the Olympic-size swimming pool. 
  • The Stade Nautique Rainier III will be running diving courses for beginners supervised by experts from the local scuba diving club, the Club d'Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco, on 19 August from 9.30 am to 5 pm (for adults and children aged 8 and over).
  • Experiencethe legendary Casino Café de Paris: Spend an evening to remember in the company of the resident DJs and dancers at the Casino Café de Paris, every Friday until 31 August.
  • Larvotto beach : The perfect place to be when the mercury rises, this attractive, newly redesigned beachside complex is popular with all ages, with its shaded promenade, fashion boutiques, and restaurants. Enjoy the cool sea breeze, grab an ice cream from Le Glacier under the pine trees, and take a refreshing dip under the azure skies.
  • Solarium : If you’re in search of a little peace and quiet amid the vibrant bustle of the Principality, the Solarium on the Rainier III embankment at Port Hercule is the place for you. From the Solarium’s beach deck, there are ladders down into the sea. Take care, though, as the water here is deep and only suitable for strong swimmers.

 

Gourmet delights:

  • Amù Monte-Carlo : This restaurant up on the rooftop of the Hôtel Fairmont now offers a new concept, the Sunday Barbecue, a culinary experience for an unforgettable family weekend, accompanied by live music and sweeping views of the Mediterranean.
  • Restaurants and private beaches: If simply relaxing with something delicious by the water’s edge as you watch the world go by is your idea of a perfect break, choose from one of the four private beaches:   Neptune,  La Note Bleue,  Miami Plage, or La Rose des Vents, recently acquired by Flavio Briatore. The restaurant’s concept remains unchanged, but the beach area has been refurbished and reopened as Falco Beach, where guests can party all day in an amazing setting.
  • Maona Monte-Carlo : This open-air cabaret-style restaurant hosts great live music and Monegasque culinary traditions with typical family recipes from the region. Maona aims to revive the legendary jet-set party nights of the 60s and 70s with a rich soundtrack that varies as the sun goes down and the stars come out. From lounge jazz, pianists, live sets and DJs playing electro-disco sounds, there’s something for everyone to dance the night away... 
  • Braséro Azzura : The latest addition at the Novotel is perfect for a summer lunch or dinner by the hotel pool. Relax and enjoy the laid-back vibe with a delicious barbecue. 
  • Taerapop-up restaurant: Taera at the Hôtel de Paris offers diners a Venezuelan gastronomical experience with a menu by top chef Victoria Vallenilla,  combining delicious dishes of the highest quality with a sumptuous setting.
  • Coya Monte-Carlo : Soak up the Latin-American vibe and savour sensational food in this unique place. The recently redesigned restaurant is a treat for the eyes and ears as well as the tastebuds, with its vibrant decor and artworks, tribal rhythms, and special “COYA Music Presents” nights, all in a unique setting between the sea and stars.

Events near Monaco

  • Paradeand fireworks at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin: Don’t miss the Promenade en Fête celebrations in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, from 9 pm on 14 August, on the theme of nature’s marvels and the mysteries of the ocean.
  • Evenings at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and gardens: Until 27 August, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and its gardens will be open to visitors every Monday and Tuesday evening. Explore the stunning site and watch open-air performances seated on the perfectly manicured lawns.
  • Nice Jazz Fest’: The world’s leading jazz festival will take place between Nice’s Place Masséna and the Théâtre de Verdure from 20 to 23 August, and will feature incredible performances by acclaimed international artists.
  • Cap Moderne, Eileen Grayand Le Corbusier at Cap Martin : Take a guided tour and learn all about this unique and architecturally fascinating collection of 20th century buildings. Explore Villa E-1027, the first ever creation by Eileen Gray, and Le Corbusier’s famous cabanon, now a UNESCO world heritage site.
