There’s music in the air in Monaco this summer.
The
Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kazuki Yamada, has unveiled
its programme for the 2024/2025 season, And it promises to be eclectic,
featuring music by the great classical composers, up-and-coming young talents,
and tribute concerts celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel,
and the 50th anniversary of the death of Shostakovich. The Orchestra is keeping
faith with events that have now become part of its tradition, including the
popular Musical Happy Hour performances, concerts for families and young
audiences, spiritual concerts, and its “Mozart in Monaco” festival, returning
for a fourth year.
The
Opéra de Monte-Carlo, under the direction of Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia
Bartoli, has also announced its programme for the 2024/2025 season which
includes 14 productions, including five fully-staged operas and three concert
performances. The curtain will go up at
the end of October with a special festival marking the centenary of the death
of Giacomo Puccini, consisting of a series of four events that promise to be
absolutely unmissable.
The
Grimaldi Forum too will be hosting its share of musical magic, with outstanding
artists including pianist Khatia Buniatishvili performing a recital on 27 June,
followed by Italian singer Zucchero on 9 July.
In
Monaco, it's not just the restaurants and the night skies that are
star-studded. You'll find some of the world's biggest and brightest stars at
the Sporting Monte-Carlo and the Opéra Garnier, with thrilling entertainment
and unforgettable concerts during the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival. Since 1974,
a succession of household names have performed at the Salle des Etoiles, the
Opéra Garnier, and more recently the Place du Casino: Frank Sinatra, Céline
Dion, Cirque du Soleil, Tina Turner, John Legend, Jamie Cullum, and Rihanna…
To
kick off this 2024 edition, French pop stars will be lighting up the Monegasque
stage from 6 July as part of their Stars 80 tour. The legendary troupe will be
performing at a special concert to mark the 20th anniversary of local charity
Fights Aids Monaco. They will be followed by a string of music megastars who
will illuminate the Principality night after night during the summer, from Sam
Smith on 9 July to Diana Krall on 16 July, and a double-header by Lenny Kravitz
on 15 and 16 August. And for the first time ever, the Monte-Carlo Summer
Festival will be welcoming a comedian - and not just any comedian either. None
other than the king of stand-up, actor and presenter Trevor Noah, will be at
the Sporting for an unmissable show on 29 July!
Every
summer, the famous Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra relocates its prowess to
the heart of the Cour d’Honneur of the Prince’s Palace, where it stages
performances unlike any other. The Philharmonic first played at the Palace back
in 1959, rekindling a hundred-year-old tradition established by the Grimaldi
family. The orchestra sets up between the two 17th century staircases, and the
magic is instant. When classical music and the splendour of the Prince’s Palace
come together, the result is nothing less than magnificent. A series of seven open-air concerts promise
moments of pure magic in a historic location.
Over
at the Larvotto seaside complex down by the water’s edge you’ll find La Note
Bleue, a timeless restaurant where the menu boasts a mix of great food and
eclectic, expertly chosen music.
Exploring everything from funk and soul to jazz and jazz fusion, melodies marry
perfectly with the Mediterranean-influenced cuisine. And the Summer Festival is
set to return to the restaurant’s Music Bar. Experience performances by
up-and-coming artists and international music legends, and dance the warm
summer nights away!
