The sixth Monaco Art Week, under the High Patronage of H.S.H.
Prince Albert II of Monaco, will be held between 2 and 7 July at various
galleries and auction houses across the Principality.
Art in the spotlight
The sixth edition of Monaco Art Week (MAW) will see galleries and
auction houses host a series of unique exhibitions and events designed to
promote synergies and dialogue, true to the spirit of the association’s
founder, who wanted to give art a place in contemporary debate.
What makes MAW unique is the search for resonance, the desire to
cultivate a conversation between the different periods in the history of art:
classical, modern, and contemporary.
This year, some 21 art galleries and auction houses are joining forces
for a week of events and exhibitions to create an “art journey”, where members
of the public, art lovers, collectors, and professionals can come together for
a shared art experience.
How it all began
The association Monaco Art Week was founded in the spring of 2018,
inspired by Laura De Jonckheere’s idea of bringing together Monaco’s different
cultural institutions with a series of events designed to showcase the local
art scene.
Art in every way, shape and
form
The week-long “journey”
is a celebration of everything from sculpture and painting to jewellery and
creations of every form, exploring Monaco’s dynamic cultural scene and deftly
navigating between different periods, with a variety of events, talks, and meetings
with artists.
MAW is unusual in
that it covers every period in the history of art, with galleries and auction
houses specialising in ancient, modern, or contemporary art all uniting around
one common theme: quality. Each participating venue prepares a new exhibition just
for MAW, showcasing its own particular field, artists, and history.
Discover Monaco through art
Monaco Art Week also includes Walking Art Tours, a wonderful chance for
art lovers to wander through the Principality’s different districts, from Les
Moneghetti to Larvotto and Monte-Carlo, discovering the country’s rich cultural
landscape.
The format makes for easy access to the exhibitions, encouraging
visitors to explore and providing a perfect addition to Monaco’s busy cultural
calendar, with the Grimaldi Forum Monaco hosting the modern and contemporary
art fair artmonte-carlo, sealing the
Principality’s reputation as an essential destination for art lovers and
collectors.
Putting Monaco on the
artistic map
Monaco Art Week is built on strong values, which include building
cultural bridges and opening up the art world to the wider community.
Every year, MAW features round tables discussing current issues relating
to the art world and the way it is changing, led by world-class speakers.
Above all, MAW is a showcase for the Principality’s vibrant, varied,
high-quality artistic landscape.
