As part of its CSR policy, AS Monaco has unveiled its "Red & White Bee Hives" programme aimed at raising awareness and taking action to promote biodiversity.
What's the connection between bee hives and goals scored in the French football championship? AS Monaco! For every ten goals scored in Ligue 1, the football club will fund the creation of a hive for 40,000 bees at one of the urban farms run by Terrae, the Monegasque specialist in eco-friendly urban agriculture! And based on the stats from last season, the team scored over 60 goals in the top flight - which would have paid for six hives.
Following their win at OGC Nice in last Sunday's Côte d'Azur derby, Philippe Clement's squad are now just two goals away from funding the first bee hive, which will be installed in the Larvotto district to help pollenate local plants. Both essential and endangered, bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and AS Monaco's initiative is a humble way of taking direct and real action to promote biodioversity, in a country with big ambitions in this area.
In addition, AS Monaco will donate some of the honey collected to opposing teams, to spread the word about Monegasque honey across Europe, while educational actions will be undertaken for the benefit of local young people throughout the school year.
