Monaco, eternally synonymous with elegance
and refinement, is also home to a vibrant cultural scene with unforgettable
events all year round. Here’s a taste of what to look forward to at the
Principality’s leading cultural institutions this coming year.
Les Ballets
de Monte-Carlo
This
year will see the prodigious ballet company enchant audiences all over the
world, with an exciting 2024/2025 set to include dates in Biarritz, Mexico,
Cuba, China, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will
also be performing in the Principality of course, nowhere more so than at the
Monaco Dance Forum, A unique festival featuring a packed programme of eclectic
shows, from 21 October with La Dispute, based on the comedy by Marivaux,
through to 17 December and the interactive choreographic spectacular Dance
Marathon. One of the highlights of the season will be Jean-Christophe Maillot’s
interpretation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, which you can see at
the Grimaldi Forum from 29 December to 4 January. In the spring, from 23 to 27
April, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be appearing again at the Salle des
Princes, along with three hugely talented choreographers in the shape of
Balanchine, Ratmansky and Goecke, before gracing the stage of the Opéra Garnier
at the Academy Gala on 20 and 21 June. The season will conclude with four
summer dates from 17 to 20 July masterminded by
Lukáš Timulak – choreographer and former dancer with Les Ballets – and
the Kor’sia dance company.

Monte-Carlo
Philharmonic Orchestra
The
OPMC promises a spectacular year for music lovers! Prepare for a thrilling
2024-2025 season packed with emotions and world-class performances by elite
international musicians, from conductors Charles Dutoit on 1 December and 9
February and Philippe Jordan on 2 March, to pianists Krystian Zimerman on 9
October and Gregory Sokolov on 27 April, and violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter on 8
June and Julie Fischer on 2 November. The resident artist will be a truly
unique duo of pianists, namely the Jussen brothers, who will be performing
three concerts on 15 September, 13 April, and 2 June. This season, the OPMC
will also be marking two important commemorations intimately connected to
Monaco’s musical history: the 50th anniversary of the death of Shostakovich,
and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel. All in all, the season ahead
promises to be every bit as memorable as the last, confirming the Monte-Carlo
Philharmonic’s status as a major institiution in the world of classical music.

Opéra
de Monte-Carlo
With
over 30 performances, and 14 planned productions including five staged operas
and three operatic concerts, the Opéra’s 2024-2025 season is set to delight
connoisseurs and neophytes alike. The season will get under way with a tribute
to the great Giacomo Puccini in the form of four major events: La rondine (30
October), La Bohème (8, 10, 13, 19 November), Tosca (15 November), and a
recital, Viva Puccini (17 November). Another tribute will be paid on 2
December, this time to Ol’ Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra, through the voice of
Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo. The festive period will include performances of
Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore (20, 22, 27, 29, 31 December) and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (21 December),
while 2025 will get off to a magnificent start with Mozart’s Don Giovanni (19
January) and La clemenza di Tito (22, 24, 26, 28 January). They will be
followed in February by Wagner, with four performances of Das Rheingold played
on period instruments by the orchestra Les Musiciens du Prince.

Théâtre
Princesse Grace
Plays
by the greatest playwrights, special performances at alternative venues, superb
solo performances, lectures and debates organised by philosophy association Les
Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco… once again, the Théâtre Princesse Grace
has an eclectic programme in store. Macha Makaïeff’s Dom Juan will set the
scene for a thrilling 2024-2025 season of high culture, followed by one-man
shows by Michel Boujenah and Lorànt Deutsch. The Théâtre Princesse Grace will
continue its tradition of hosting the biggest names of the stage, including
Sophie Marceau, François Berléand, Richard Berry, and François Morel. An
evening devoted to modern art will see Hector Obalk unlock the secrets of the
discipline over the course of two fascinating hours, and those of a
philosophical disposition can look forward to stimulating discussions on a
variety of topics. The theatre will be introducing the next generation to the
delights of the stage too, with a play for a young audience entitled
“Chut ! Une pomme.”

Forum Monaco
From
Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra to the
Opéra, the Printemps des Arts Monte-Carlo, and the Théâtre Princesse Grace… the
Grimaldi Forum Monaco is the natural setting for performances by the
Principality’s greatest cultural institutions all year round. In addition, the
modern steel and glass complex plays host to trade fairs and many other
prestigious events. Global smash hit musical Mamma Mia! will be returning to
Monaco at the GFM from 9 to 13 October. The Grimaldi Forum will also be
showcasing the very best of popular culture with Monaco Comic Con from 14 to 17
November, followed by the Monte-Carlo Film Festival from 27 to 30 November. And
hit musical Elf will be a guaranteed hit with youngsters in the run-up to Christmas,
from 27 to 29 November. There will be unique performances from Artus with his
new comedy show on 11 January and Pascal Obispo on 1 April, not to mention the
Thursday Live Sessions set to enliven the Monegasque cultural scene regularly
throughout the year.
