The Principality
of Monaco, known for its luxury lifestyles and bold architecture, now has a
spectacular new neighbourhood: Mareterra, built on six hectares of
land reclaimed from the Mediterranean Sea.
The
ambitious project was officially inaugurated on 4 December 2024 by the Princely
Family, and is an ultra-modern example of innovation, elegance,
and respect for the environment. For tourists and residents alike,
this new eco-district is a place where nature and refinement co-exist in
perfect harmony.
A visionary development: between land
and sea
Some
of architecture’s most iconic figures helped to design the sumptuous villas in
the new district, including Tadao Ando, Lord Norman Foster and Renzo Piano, and
landscape designer Michel Desvigne.
Mareterra pushes
the boundaries - quite literally:
- A
500 metre-long waterfront promenade with unrivalled sea views.
- Green
spaces covering 40% of the new district, including a wooded area with nearly 1,000
trees.
- A
marina with 16 berths.
- Plus
110 apartments, 10 luxury villas, and 4 town houses.
The
new epicentre of gastronomy and shopping
With
12 areas devoted to retail outlets and restaurants, Mareterra is sure to
popular with those with a taste for the finer things in life.
Some
of the most anticipated new eateries include the 99 Sushi Bar for
refined Japanese fare, and Marlow,
a
warm and sophisticated British-style coffee house with a dash of charming
eccentricity, set to open in January 2025.
Among
the high-end boutiques soon to open is Stefano Ricci, famous
for its luxury ready-to-wear collections.
An
exemplary eco-district
Mareterra boasts
impeccable green credentials and meets "High Environmental Quality” standards of sustainability, with infrastructures specially designed to
minimise their eco-footprint:
- 9,000
m² of solar panels, covering
40% of the district’s energy needs.
- A 600 m3 tank
to collect
rainwater that
is then used to water plants.
- Geothermal
sea water-based heating: heat
pumps use the energy contained in sea water to provide both heating and cooling.
The
project reflects Monaco’s strong commitment to combining cutting-edge urban
design and sustainability to offer an outstanding living environment.
