The New National Museum of Monaco is presenting LAB#2 Hors
Catégories (LAB#2, Uncategorised) with Berger&Berger, Patrick Corillon,
Félix Dol Maillot and Damien MacDonald.
The LAB consists of making the museum into a laboratory and clarifying
the experiments that are carried out there; bringing the public to look at the museum while they walk
through it. They are no longer
simply visitors, but their visit is transformed into a shared experience.
This experience was initiated at the Villa Sauber two years ago
with the first LAB, which focused on the practices and crafts that underpin the
museum's activities. It impressed
and appealed to visitors, showing them behind the scenes of a place they
normally walk straight through.
The aim of this second LAB#2 is to continue redefining the
museum. Or better still, to put
and end to definitions, going off the beaten track with uncategorised creators
who shake up the meaning of the word "artist" through protean
practices. From now on, visitors will
have to question the place they are in, to bring out this questioning. The NMNM
therefore asked four artists to imagine the museum of the future.
Their proposals have been added to an exhibition of works by
Michel Blazy, an artist from Monaco who is internationally renowned for his work
with perishable materials - living sculptures from national collections, which challenge
the museum's conservation practices.
