Starting on 13 March and running until 7 April, the 40th
Festival du Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo is a celebration of artistic
creativity, blending different art forms to showcase a plethora of unique
talents.
The event encompasses a variety of artistic fields, ranging from
concerts and operas to painting, photography, and theatre. In the words of H.R.H. the Princess of
Hanover, President of the Festival du Printemps des Arts since 1984, it is an “invariable, eternal cycle, like the changing of
the seasons.”
This 40th Printemps des Arts continues the theme explored since 2022,
inspired by a quote from the composer Guillaume de Machaut, “My end is my
beginning”, with “The Song of the Earth” as its central theme. The original
piece by Gustav Mahler has considerable topical relevance, and aligns with the
Principality’s environmental commitments questioning our relationship with the
Earth and its future. The symphony will
be interpreted in a trilogy of different ways: a performance of the original
version by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (6 April), a poetic
adaptation by Reinbert de Leeuw and performed by the Het Collectief (16 March),
and finally a creation by the composer and conductor Laurent Cuniot (29 March).
The Printemps des Arts is more than a mere festival of music and art. It
brings people together, through a series of events curated to promote dialogue
between artists, specialists, and audiences, including lectures, masterclasses,
a musical dinner, interactive workshops, after-parties, and more. The Printemps
des Arts is not just for adults, but children too, with events created for
families and young audiences, so art lovers of all ages can enjoy the
experience. The Festival is free for under 25s.
